Sweet corn planting: the spring calendar in southwest France

🎥 In the southwest of France, the sweet corn season begins in spring with planting.

🌱 A planting calendar driven by field conditions

🌱 Planting can start as early as April for the earliest plots, weather and soil conditions permitting. The peak planting period occurs in May, sometimes extending into early June, when the soil is warm enough for strong and even growth.

Timing is key: it determines the plant’s growth cycle, its hardiness, and, ultimately, the quality of the corn.

🌽 The importance of variety selection

The choice of varieties is just as important. Bonduelle’s agricultural teams select select them for their disease resistance, their ability to adapt to unpredictable weather, and their consistent performance, as well as for taste, sweetness, texture, and crunch.

♻️ Making the most of the whole plant

🌽 At harvest, only the usable part is harvested (the cob); the rest of the plant (90 % of the biomass) is returned to the soil to maintain organic matter and support fertility.

At Bonduelle, our expertise is reflected in careful planning and technical know-how, all dedicated to producing sustainable and flavorful plant-rich food.
