Industrial performance

Preserving all the naturalness of the plant

The Bonduelle Group produces plant-based foods on a major scale, in factories that are focused on local areas and respectful of people and the planet.
Our industrial manufacturing and preservation processes enable us to offer minimally processed and affordable products that combine nutritional quality, food safety and a limited environmental footprint.

In 2050, there will be 9.6 billion human beings to feed in a context of climate change. As a committed agribusiness, we're contributing to the transition to plant-based food on a global scale.

100% natural processes

Our preparation and preservation processes are 100% natural, based on heat and cold. Why are the vegetables that arrive on our consumers’ plates so close to those we’d bite into in the field? Or that we’d prepare at home?

Firstly, because our products are processed as quickly as possible after harvesting, sometimes within just a few hours. Secondly, because our industrial processes for the manufacture and preservation of plants are based on just two natural thermal processes: heat and cold. This is what enables us to preserve all the qualities of the vegetables and mushrooms: their taste, their texture, their color, etc.

Salade de maïs

Our canned vegetables are only preserved using heat: a few minutes at over 130 °C. They are then are stored at room temperature.

Sachet de préparation pour burrito

Our frozen vegetables are only preserved by cold at -30 °C, then stored at -18 °C

Inspection de feuilles de mâche

Our salads in bags and containers are prepared, packaged and stored between +1 °C and +4 °C.

A positive impact on the territories

Contributing to the resilience of territories

All over the world, Bonduelle plants contribute to the attractiveness, economic strength and resilience of the territories in which they are located. They create value and long-term and seasonal jobs, and forge special links with local farmers, elected officials, associations and citizens, etc., because our activities must not only serve our company and our customers: they must benefit society as a whole, its economy, the well-being of populations and the preservation of resources. Combining eco-industrial performance and positive impact is possible – and that is why we are aiming for B Corp certification by 2025.

Supporting local communities

We’re convinced that the quality of our relationships with the players in our agro-industrial territories is one of the keys to our longevity. Our commitment to local communities is also an essential driver for accelerating the socio-economic transition and working collectively for the common good.

Reusing water

In Bordères, in the south-west of France, farmers close to our plant regularly face a lack of water resources, especially during the summer. We designed a device to reuse the water from the plant for agricultural irrigation. Together, they contribute to the circular economy of the territory. The reused water is loaded with Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Carbon and Potassium, which are useful for fertilizing the fields without chemical inputs.

Taking action for health

We now know the direct effects of diet on health and well-being. Bonduelle works every day to make plant-based food affordable for everyone, without ever compromising on product quality and safety: two historical pillars of our agro-industrial activity.

Guaranteeing the nutritional quality of our products

Our recipes favor short lists of ingredients, keeping the use of additives to a minimum. Moreover, Bonduelle canned goods contain no preservatives. The group is also investing in organic and pesticide-free product lines.

In France, 98,2% of our products are classified as Nutri-score A or B.

Controlling quality and ensuring traceability

Bonduelle carries out dozens of checks, from the harvesting to the storage of products, notably for temperature, analyses of bacteria and weight. On average, a frozen bean undergoes 18 checks before it reaches the consumer’s plate!

Bonduelle conducts 65,000 food safety analyses per year on its products.

Investing in better plants for the planet

Faced with the climate challenge and the depletion of resources, our industrial sites are taking action in tight formation. All over the world, the goals of our plants are the same: reduce energy costs, substitute fossil fuels with renewable energies and ensure sustainable and integrated management of water resources. Within the group, renewable energy installations within and around the plants are multiplying (voltaic panels, biomass boilers, methanization units using wastewater and green waste, etc.).

  • In France, the Estrée Mons plant saves over 18,000 tons of CO2 per year, thanks to its biomass steam production plant.

Taking action on the impact of our waste and packaging

Bonduelle feeds the circular economy by recovering or recycling its plant and industrial waste. In terms of product packaging, the group is fully committed to reducing the environmental impact of packaging.

  • In our factories we use or recycle 100% of the plants
  • The group is gradually abandoning non-recyclable multilayer flexible films, especially for frozen foods.
