Operation Innovation at Del Monte

The story of Del Monte and Bonduelle began in July 2018, when the Group acquired the brand, which is well-known in Canada for its quality and authenticity. Despite their popularity, canned foods are currently saddled with an outdated image ill-suited to the expectations of a demanding, health-conscious market. Accordingly, an idea was devised to capitalize on

the Group’s innovations and launch three new Bonduelle Americas Long Life (BALL) products this year under the Del Monte brand.

A revolution in fruits and vegetables

The first innovation, which hit the shelves in February, was a ready-to-eat corn product (the top-selling canned food in Canada) available in three flavors: Southwest, Mediterranean, and Mexican. Produced and packaged by Bonduelle Europe Long Life (BELL) in Hungary and France, these products were adapted to fit the Del Monte line.

Additionally, BALL will soon be offering ready-to-use vegetables (including beets, grated carrots, and celeriac) in order to add some extra variety to people’s diets. With these grated vegetables (made in Renescure), BALL is providing consumers with easy-to-use products that will leave ample room for imagination in their cooking.

Lastly, on the fruit side, two new product lines have been introduced for consumers to enjoy at any time of the day: Fruits & Oats and Fruits & Chia. The first product can be eaten hot or cold, and is available in three irresistible flavors: Apple Cinnamon, Peach Cinnamon Spice, and Pear Maple. The second product mixes chia seeds with chunks of fruit, providing a nice, healthy snack.

A revolution followed on social media

To ensure the success of these new products, the focus was put on social media and influencers, with campaigns on instagram, facebook, and even a new website, delmontecanada.com. This tactic has paid off, as the first feedback are already positive, an encouraging sign for our innovation strategy.

“It was a great challenge to launch four product lines/innovations in one year. We are all very proud of this accomplishment!”

Marie-Eve Ooft - Del Monte Brand Manager

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who is working to keep these products available under the current circumstances!
