Safety at work is a constant requirement at the four Bonduelle plants in Quebec (Ste-Martine, St-Césaire, St-Denis, and Bedford)—so they decided to do something to further educate and empower their employees on this issue.
Health & safety: everyone’s responsibility
Hazardous situations, defective tools, inadequate processes...gone are the days when you could simply report or warn people about these problems and forget about them. Nowadays, everyone has the ability and the responsibility to offer their supervisor a solution as well.
Once a problem has been identified and reported through a form, an Health & safety at Work (HSW) Committee meets every month to review all of the projects and recognize the month’s winning employee and their proposal. Prizes include corporate gifts, Cassegrain products rarely seen in Quebec (maximum value: 25 dollars), and even the best parking space in the plant!
32 HSW leaders recognized at the first annual gala
Last January, the first HSW gala was held in order to recognize the year’s monthly winners from our four plants in Quebec. In all, a total of 32 employees attended this exceptional event. The ceremony included speeches, prize giveaways, and presentations on each employee’s accomplishments—small gestures which, as noted by health & safety lecturer Michel Pérusse, are important for ensuring everyone’s success and investment in the cause.
At the end of the event, Eric Benoit, an employee of the St Denis plant, took home the top prize for creating a grab bar and modifying transport trolleys to make them safer for everyone. See you next January for the second edition of the HSW gala!
