Bonduelle obtains LEAF certification in Spain

The Bonduelle Fresco Agricola de Murcia farm (Spain) obtains LEAF certification for its salad production in May 2014.

The LEAF standard aims to offer consumers a guarantee of the care given by farms to the production within an eco-responsible framework.

This standard certifies that the product has undergone an eco-responsible approach.

Bonduelle operates in the Spanish region of Murcia, spread out over 200 ha, and grows around twenty varieties of salad (lettuce, curly endive, oak leaf lettuce, baby sprouts, spinach, etc.). The group develops and applies production systems there in accordance with its ambitions to enhance sustainable agriculture.

To reduce the use of phytosanitary products, various solutions were implemented, such as insect traps, hormonal distributors or useful micro-organisms. Using natural plant extracts also made it possible to act by reinforcing the plants' natural defences. Lastly, using anti-insect nets made it possible to reduce pesticide application by 80%.

In Europe, several producer partners of Bonduelle Fresh vegetables are already LEAF certified, and the ultimate aim is to develop this approach with most of Bonduelle's producer partners.
